I’ll be honest my experience of car rentals has never been that amazing. But when I was contacted by recently launched, French car hire firm Virtuo, I was sold by the redesigned experience of renting a car. In the past I’ve been lucky enough to own some gorgeous high end cars (Mercedes, Porshe, Audi’s) but one divorce later with an eye watering legal fee to boot (I’ll spare you the details for another day) my current car is slightly shabbier than I’ve been used to. In the past I’ve never needed to hire a ‘quality’ car, however I can now fully appreciate the reasons for doing so. Leaving London and heading into the countryside for a few days requires a car that you know won’t let you down on those motorways or country roads. Plus who am I kidding….everyone likes a good looking car!

Virtuo’s fleet consists of the Mercedes A class and the GLA- with me choosing the latter for my drivetime adventure.

The whole experience from downloading the app to collecting the car was a breeze. There’s no endless paperwork to fill out, you know what car you’re getting and the smartphone technology makes booking and using the service enjoyable- how many times have you been able to say that when hiring a car before?!

Operating from five bases in London- Victoria, Waterloo, King’s Cross, Marble Arch and Kensington, its app completely changes the car rental experience.  So how does it work? Well, once you’ve downloaded the app and registered with all of your documents approved you can choose the car you require. Then literally everything happens on your phone. A few hours before I was due to pick up the car all the information I needed to find it (address of the parking, the exact parking spot and the number plate of the car) were sent to me. I was then able to download a digital key.  I rocked up, found the car and was able to open it all within the app. Then i jumped in and hit the road. Simple.

It’s a great option to try as a Londoner if you want to get away for the weekend. The GLA was the perfect size to fit my two young children in the back and the boot was ample for overnight and shopping bags!  This literally ticks all the boxes- good customer service (I did contact them via the app to ask a few questions and they responded very promptly), fantastic looking cars and a seamless experience.
